Getting Started
October 1st, 2009
Congratulations, you’ve landed! Where do you go from here?
Before you dive in, you should go ahead and create a free account. You will need to sign up in order to post. Don’t worry, we promise not to share your information with anyone or clog your inbox with cheap prescription medication offers. If you’re still worried, take a look at our privacy policy. If you’re still worried, you might have some personal issues you need to work out. We can’t help you with that.
Post your source code.
You can either post code that you’ve refactored (à la Before and After), or code that you need a hand with. It’s our hope that this site can serve as both a handbook of good development patterns as well as a community resource for software developers around the world. You should check out our guidelines for posting source code whenever you get a chance.
Discuss and share.
Without your knowledge and involvement, this site is useless. You may notice a small, green ShareThis icon near the bottom of each post on this site. If you click this icon, you can share the post with others in nearly every conceivable way including e-mail, Delicious and Twitter. Social media FTW!
Rate solutions.
Did you find something on this site that helped you out of a jam? Great! Vote it up! You can vote submitted posts up or down to increase or decrease their visibilty to other users. Ratings also help to track user reputation because, let’s face it, we’re all software developers here and we’ve all got sizable egos to maintain.
Follow us.
The best way for you to stay up-to-date with the latest and greatest content on this site is to follow us on Twitter. What? You don’t use Twitter? You should really sign up. All the cool kids are doing it. The world needs to know when you’re standing in line for a latté.
Help spread the word.
The more members we have, the more valuable we can be. Since our site is driven by the global software development community, we rely on users like you to spread the word. If you find this site useful, we ask that you spread the good news online, at work or even at your local development user group.
If you have any questions, check here first.
